About eight years ago I bought myself a beautiful bound sketchbook and started sketching my guitar strap and the idea for a song. It then sat around until 2014 when I started to write in earnest and blog my poems. Rather than scribbled on a piece of paper and thrown away, I started honouring my ideas in the book, pasting pieces of nature and old photographs or clippings.

Last year I got a really bad batch of Dengue fever which wiped me out. But I was still able to scribble out little poems, affirmations and ideas in my book. After sitting locked away in a bookcase for so many years, the sketch book has become a source of comfort and inspiration and accompanies me on all my travels (and I’m still a long way from filling its already rusted pages).

This blogpost and the little slideshow below is in honour of my sketchbook and transcription of my creativity, if you have been following my blog you may have already read or seen some of its secrets. I hope in some small way my little book might inspire other would-be writers out there to take that next step and write your life (and the best place to start is right here on your blog).

All my love for 2017.

Mel xx
