Each morning
begins before
the sun appears
over the cliff
raining daylight
along the leeward
living below our
21st century sun.
Monkeys grab at
fruit scraps
(sometime pets)
a few chickens
and fecund dogs
wander a small shore.
Children squeal
to the high tide
where fathers disappear
aft along the rough
netted and roped
they ply an ancient
trade, submerged
(remaining silent)
beneath our prim
and proper plates.
