  • OTHER DETAILS: . The stamp was originally issued in 1931 with a facevalue of $1, but was reissued in 1932 with an overprinted surcharge, raising the face value to $1.50.

Newfoundland played an important role in the development of long-distance air travel and many commemorative stamps were issued between 1913 and 1933

According to the Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Website, because Newfoundland is the most easterly place in North America, it became a popular taking-off point for aviation pioneers attempting to cross the Atlantic by air. Amelia Earhart made two record-setting flights from Newfoundland, in 1928 and 1932.
