Description
Mrs Rabbit cross stitch pattern is a replica of the 1910 Beatrix Potter drawing from her bestselling book ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit‘.
The backbone of the story, “old” Mrs Rabbit is a hardworking single mom raising 4 youngsters (including the super-naughty Peter) all by herself. She’s definitely worth a few stitches — though I’m not really sure why she was relegated to the title ‘old Mrs Rabbit’.
‘NOW, my dears,’ said old Mrs. Rabbit one morning, ‘you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don’t go into Mr. McGregor’s garden: your Father had an accident there; he was put in a pie by Mrs. McGregor.’
THEN old Mrs. Rabbit took a basket and her umbrella, and went through the wood to the baker’s. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five currant buns.
As a single mother myself, of a super adventurous ADHD teenage boy, Mrs Rabbit is definitely my Beatrix Potter hero. Though I wouldn’t dare call her old.
The Project
This is a (mostly) full coverage cross stitch — but I have waved the edges so it looks like Beatrix Potter’s original drawings from the book. You’ll be stitching the steadfast Mrs Rabbit in her best dress and umbrella walking through the woods.
The finished piece measures 23.4 x 29.2cm when stitched on 14 count Aida cloth, and you’ll only be completing 18,168 stitches. The pattern works perfectly with Pattern Keeper App and there are NO backstitches.
The Peter Rabbit Series
Beatrix Potter’s original painting of Mrs Rabbit can be found on page 4 of her classic children’s book The Tale of Peter Rabbit. In the illustrious tale, Peter takes off for Mr McGregor’s garden while his mother is out shopping for bread, and loses all his clothes. Mrs Rabbit is well … less than pleased.
If you’re keen to stich more illustrations from the book, I’ve charted more than a few of Peter’s playful adventures. They are available to buy individually or as a set of 4 matching charts.
More Beatrix Potter?
If you loved Beatrix Potter as much as I did growing up you’ll be excited to know that I am actively charting a full range of her beloved animal characters. I don’t use backstitching and try to stay as close as possible to the original paintings. Miss Potter painted in muted tones and didn’t use a lot of contrast. I like this look and hope you do to.
