Description
Van Gogh Irises cross stitch pattern is a full-sized replica of the gorgeous flowers he painted during the last year of his life, while interred at the asylum at Saint-Rémy. The violet-blue flowers that filled the asylum gardens — as well as the surrounding meadows and roadside ditches — were a source of delight and solace for Van Gogh, and he often spoke of them in letters to his brother Theo.
The Project
This project is a very large, full coverage cross stitch that measures 93.4cm x 71.7cm (595 x 395 grid) when stitched on 14 count Aida cloth — the same size as the actual painting. The project requires 249 different DMC colours and you’ll be completing a whopping 203,425 stitches.
I took great care to ensure this cross stitch recreates Van Gogh’s brilliant blue/violet irises, very yellow buttercups, and jade green foliage as well as the brushstrokes and textures of the original painting. Even Van Gogh’s signature — Vincent, in the lower left corner — has been faithfully reproduced.
To manage a project of this scale, I strongly recommend using Pattern Keeper, and you’ll find a dedicated chart for the app included in your download pack.
The Artist
Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose vibrant colour and impasto brushwork changed the course of modern art. I’m gradually charting more of Van Gogh’s paintings into contemporary cross stitch patterns, so check back often for new additions to the store.
