Waterloo Cross Stitch Pattern

Description

Waterloo cross stitch pattern is the sequel painting to A Bold Bluff from the Dogs Playing Poker paintings, by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge.

The old Saint Bernard has bluffed his way to a winning round with just a pair of Aces, and the bulldog and the mastiff are seriously upset. The collie dog thinks it is hilarious (maybe he didn’t invest much on that hand) while the greyhound looks like he might be about to whimper. It’s such a fun scene.

The Project

Waterloo cross stitch pattern is a large, full-coverage project and the finished piece measures 72.6 x 49.3cm when stitched on 14-count Aida cloth (400 x 272 stitches). The project requires 147 different DMC colours and you’ll be completing 108,800 stitches.

If you’re a fan of all things kitsch, you will love stitching the garish colours and matching details from the original painting including the facial expressions of the dogs, the upholstery, bookcase, poker chips and cards.

It’s quite a challenging piece as there are a lot of similar colours, fine details, and confetti, but don’t worry. My charts work perfectly with the Pattern Keeper App and I’ve included an extra PK chart in your download pack.

The Artist

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (aka Kash Coolidge) was an American painter, most famous for his Dogs Playing Poker paintings which were commissioned for a series of calendars in 1903. I have more replicas of Coolidge’s work here in the store and have charted 6 from the series.
