Description
Gathering Onions cross stitch pattern is a replica of Beatrix Potter’s drawing of Peter Rabbit and his cousin Benjamin Bunny helping themselves to the vegetables in Mr McGregor’s garden.
In the story, Benjamin Bunny has found a miserable Peter Rabbit wearing nothing but a red pocket handkerchief and lamenting the loss of his clothes to Mr McGregor’s scarecrow. The two rabbit-boys make a plan to get them back — and have some more adventures along the way. Like stealing onions, getting imprisoned by a cat, and receiving a spanking from Benjamin Bunny Snr.
The Project
This cross stitch project is a manageable size and looks just like the original drawing from the book. The finished piece measures 26.1cm x 31.0cm when stitched on 14-count Aida cloth, but you’ll only be completing 21,045 stitches.
You’ll need 69 different DMC colours to recreate Peter and Little Benjamin getting to work on Mr McGregor’s onions. The pattern works perfectly with Pattern Keeper App and there are NO backstitches.
Matching Charts
Gathering Onions cross stitch is the third chart in a set of four. You’ll find more mischief from Benjamin Bunny and his cousin Peter Rabbit in the other charts in the series. The finished pieces are perfect for bags, clothing, and rustic picture frames.
More Beatrix Potter?
Beatrix Potter was an English artist and storyteller who lived from 1866 to 1943. I adored her wonderful books when I was growing up, most especially Timmy Tiptoes, the Two Bad Mice, and Squirrel Nutkin. Who are your favourites? You might find them here in my online cross stitch store.
