Description
In the Library Cross Stitch Pattern is a gorgeous scene featuring a young society girl reading her favourite book — in a stunning velvet bustled gown. It’s a replica of the 1872 painting Dans la bibliothèque by French artist Auguste Toulmouche.
The Project
This is a very large, full coverage project that measures 54.4 x 95.2cm (300 x 525 grid area) when stitched on 14-count Aida cloth. You’ll need 123 different DMC colours and will complete 157,500 cross stitches. Due to the large size of the chart, it’s a tricky piece — but if you like a challenge I think you’ll enjoy stitching this fashionable young woman lost in a book (or three).
Please note: I have included an extra chart in your download pack to use with the Pattern Keeper App. I recommend PK for large full coverage projects like this one.
The Artist
Auguste Toulmouche (1829–1890) was a French Realist painter best known for his elegant depictions of fashionable women and richly detailed French interiors. His work is greatly admired for its meticulous attention to detail, especially his rendering of luxury textiles. Like to see more?
