Surviving the Trip

Whenever Jerry and I are riding the highway in a tricycle I do have the odd morbid thought about whether we will survive the trip.

Tricycles are great for photographs, the scenery is so close you can literally touch it. However when big trucks, overloaded motorbikes or headlight free jeeps come roaring behind you right on sunset it’s hard not to feel a little daunted.

Our last trip just a few days ago was right in the middle of a thunderstorm (no pictures sorry) complete with pouring rain, blackened clouds and lightning split all over the sky. Jerry buried his head in my shoulder as I hunched over my bag to protect the iPhone from the rain and the muddy water splashing from the underbelly of our transport.

These late afternoon highway adventures and wandering the roadside with my smartphone camera are truly the way I survive not only the intense summer heat but living in a new country.
