Description
Sloop cross stitch pattern was inspired by a set of yachting scenes in an old pattern book (circa. 1900). Isn’t it wonderful how just a few simple lines (and 5 ascending colours) can create the image of a small sailing ship tearing across the ocean?
The Project
This is a cutaway project that measures 14.5cm x 9.6cm (80 x 53 grid area) when completed on 14-count Aida cloth. I’ve charted the design using 5 x turquoise tones (DMC thread) but you could easily swap these for antique blue, sea green, or pewter. The project has 1,671 cross stitches, so it won’t take long to finish.
Even though this is a very easy cross stitch, your download pack includes an extra chart that works seamlessly in the Pattern Keeper App. PK is a great way to manage your cross stitch.
Stitch the Set
If you love this vintage sloop, why not stitch our whole set of six matching charts? I’ve used complimentary colours and symbols throughout all the patterns.
More Vintage Cross Stitch?
Do you love antique cross stitch patterns and transforming vintage designs into modern home decor? Me too. I always wonder about the person, more than 100 years ago, who imagined little ships and florals and other wonderful scenes into cross stitch. Why not browse the store for more ideas?
